OpenAI & ChatGPT's New Agent Mode

June 16th, 2025. OpenAI (The parent company of ChatGPT)

We’re all used to ChatGPT (refered to as Chat) and other LLM (Large Language Model) AI Assistants by now. Many people use them on a daily basis for things like doing research, finding answers, and coming up with solutions to common problems. There is one area where AI hasn’t really been able to help - until now. Until recently, AI has not been able to actually do anything for us. Yes, it can do some research, and answer problems and questions, but it can’t do anything. On June 16th, OpenAI changed that.

Introducing: ChatGPT Agent Mode

ChatGPT’s Agent Mode will have the ability to take action within a web browser and create fathomable results. Chat will now be able to help you with things like booking flights and hotels, ordering groceries and food, and much more. In the past, you could ask ChatGPT for a recipe and it would provide it, but now, Chat can actually get the ingredients your missing Instacarted to your door. Chat could previously help you plan a trip by giving you an hour by hour itinerary, but now it can actually book those hotels and activities.

Safety is the TOP priority

It is definitely understandable to be concerned with an AI being able to do things that cost money and can actually affect you, but here’s the thing: ChatGPT will always ask for your final permission before making any account changes or purchases - or really any big decisions. The other amazing thing is that you will be able to watch exactly what Chat is doing in real time, while it is also being explained to you. ChatGPT will show you a browser window with a cursor and text box. The cursor will be moved around by the AI and the text box will populate with an explanation of it’s every move - then at the end, you’ll receive a step-by-step explanation as to what it just did.

ChatGPT will not have your account information or credit card information stored for use in it’s tasks. When it is time to log into your Delta SkyMiles account, your Marriott Bonvoy Account, or put in your credit card details, ChatGPT will ask you to take over and input the information, before continuing. Speaking of taking over, the user will be able to take control or fully STOP ChatGPT at any time.

UPDATE: The Task Troopers Team put this new mode to the test by asking it to submit a free tech help request from the Task Troopers website and it worked 100%! It confirmed that we wanted to agree to the terms and conditions, it asked for my information to input into the form and it confirmed all of the information before submitting!
